The Gutierrez Memorial Fund was established in the spring of 2010, to honor the life of artist, visionary and community leader, John K. Gutierrez.
The first project of the Gutierrez Memorial Fund was a personal one- the making of the John K. Gutierrez Memorial Fireplace. Gutierrez Studios started the project off by donating the fireplace design. But to make the dream a reality, a substantial budget was necessary for materials, fabrication and installation.
On October 23, 2010, we held the first Gutierrez Memorial Walk to raise funds for the construction. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. Though many of us on the committee had assumed we would not reach our financial goal in one day –it was a huge success. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community and local business sponsors, we proudly reached our goal of $35,000 and the construction process began.
Over the winter months, the design, engineering, permitting and fabrication was completed. The fireplace was moved from Gutierrez Studios and installed permanently at Clipper Mill on February 25, 2011.

The Memorial Fireplace was an ambitious project. But we did it! The dedication was held on March 19th- to the light of a super moon and we inaugurated the fireplace in grand Guti-style! The fireplace continues to be lit every Friday and Saturday night from 6-11pm and we invite you to come remember John and experience the magic of our community achievement.
The legacy continues!
Built on the success of the Memorial Fireplace, the community’s enthusiasm and our commitment to carrying on John’s legacy we will continue the Gutierrez Memorial Walk as an annual event. All proceeds raised will support the Gutierrez Memorial Fund, dedicated to supporting the arts in Baltimore. Please go to the About Us page and learn more about our mission.
To all those who made the Fireplace a reality- we thank you and look to your continued support.
The 3rd annual Gutierrez Memorial Walk will be held on October 20, 2012. Please help us keep the fire burning!
